Distance Measuring

Question

Is there a distance measuring tool in El Capitan Maps? I can't seem to find one, if there is.

No, only for directions. The scale is pretty much the only way.

Is this what you are looking for: Show a distance scale: To show a scale on the map, choose View > Show Scale. ?
